Pleasant Grove has new windows and classroom casework installed. A bathroom has been installed in several classrooms due to only having one community bathroom at Pleasant Grove.

Students that are currently attending Graham Elementary during the renovation projects are able to return back to Pleasant Grove Elementary after the 2-week Christmas break.

ABSS has installed a new and more secure entrance to Pleasant Grove. The new HVAC system is still in the process of being installed. Pleasant Grove has a new gym floor that is ready to be used during the new school year. The restrooms have been updated with an epoxy floor and new stalls. The classrooms received new casework, new LED lighting, and new bathrooms in some of the rooms.

An RFQ has been posted for geotechnical studies at seven campuses receiving renovations. These include: Western High School, Eastern High School, Graham High School, Cummings High School, Williams High School, Pleasant Grove Elementary, and South Mebane Elementary. RFQs are due by November 8.

On June 18, 2019, the ABSS Board of Education approved Sud Associates P.A., an engineering firm from Durham do the renovations and additions for Pleasant Grove Elementary School and Walter Williams High School. At this time Sud Associates, P.A., is reviewing their blueprints. Pleasant Grove is still scheduled to be the third project once the new high school and Southern High School projects are completed.

The ABSS architect/designer selection process began last November when ABSS posted the RFQ (Request for Quotes) and scheduled school visits for early December. By the January 7, 2019 deadline, ABSS received 24 architect/designers submissions for renovation projects and 13 submissions for the new high school. The selection process also included two rounds of interviews with an internal committee and a stakeholder committee.

At the June 18, 2019 ABSS Board of Education Meeting, staff recommended Sud Associates P.A., an engineering firm from Durham do the renovations and additions for Pleasant Grove Elementary School and Walter Williams High School.

Sud Associates, P.A., will provide the following services: sealed architectural, structural, M.E.P. and FP plans, sealed civil and landscape design, owner assistance with bidding, owner/contractor assistance with permits, and project observation during construction. The estimated design costs are Pleasant Grove Elementary School for $480,700 and Walter Williams High School for $365,900.

The ABSS Board of Education approved all staff recommendations for architect/designers for school bond projects.
